Many of you are already beginning your season of bat evictions and exclusions, but if you haven’t, we just wanted to remind you that now is a good time to start inspections and work. Two months remain until bat pup season begins when exclusions and evictions are required by law to cease until August. The non-exclusion period in Wisconsin runs from June 1 through August 15 unless there is a human health or safety risk in which case the health exemption form must be completed by the landowner: http://dnr.wi.gov/files/PDF/forms/2300/2300-330.pdf .

Also a quick note- on April 1, the US Fish and Wildlife Service announced the listing of the northern long-eared bat as threatened with a 4(d) rule. The rule exempts possible take during removal of bats from buildings so you will not need a federal permit to continue your work, however anyone conducting bat exclusion and eviction in Wisconsin must still follow the Wisconsin Broad Incidental Take Permit for bats. In addition, any wildlife control operator handling or transporting bats for any reason during exclusion in Wisconsin must have a threatened/endangered species permit, because all four cave bat species are listed as threatened in Wisconsin. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/endangeredresources/permits.html
