This is a notice from our State DNR office. If you even think you have bats, now is the time to contact a pro. Once breeding season is in full swing, removal from structures is banned.
Contact me and I will connect you with a qualified Bat Management Expert! "Dear nuisance wildlife control operators,... Many of you are already beginning your season of bat evictions and exclusions, but if you haven’t, we just wanted to remind you that now is a good time to start inspections and work. Two months remain until bat pup season begins when exclusions and evictions are required by law to cease until August. The non-exclusion period in Wisconsin runs from June 1 through August 15 unless there is a human health or safety risk in which case the health exemption form must be completed by the landowner: http://dnr.wi.gov/files/PDF/forms/2300/2300-330.pdf . More information about the Bat Broad Incidental Take Permit/Authorization, and the health exemption form can be found on the DNR website: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/erreview/itbats.html Also a quick note- on April 1, the US Fish and Wildlife Service announced the listing of the northern long-eared bat as threatened with a 4(d) rule. The rule exempts possible take during removal of bats from buildings so you will not need a federal permit to continue your work, however anyone conducting bat exclusion and eviction in Wisconsin must still follow the Wisconsin Broad Incidental Take Permit for bats. In addition, any wildlife control operator handling or transporting bats for any reason during exclusion in Wisconsin must have a threatened/endangered species permit, because all four cave bat species are listed as threatened in Wisconsin. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/endangeredresources/permits.html Please feel free to contact us with questions and have a great spring, Heather and Rori We are committed to service excellence. what good is it to have an army of technicians that can arrive same day, yet have no clue what they are doing?
I may not always be able to see you the same day you call, I will always know what to do and in the safest most innovative manner. I am always worth the possible wait, always. Over thirty years experience gets you that and more. Signs of spring are everywhere. You just need to know where they are.
Sparrows are forming their smaller breeding flocks. Even their song is changing. The longer days with the sun higher up from the southern horizon, structures are warming up. Waking up insects that have been patiently waiting for spring to arrive. Ant calls have been unexpectedly high. Carpenter ants, Pavement ants as well as a tramp ant known as the Odorous House Ant. The OHA is a very small black ant with a slight tear drop shape to it's abdomen. They move very fast for their size. If crushed they have a citronella like odor. Even skunks are beginning to stir. The snow base is over a foot yet. Fortunately more seasonable temps will arrive the second week of March with possible 50*F. By the beginning of the third week of March! Looks like February will get one more arctic blast. Still won't be cold enough to kill off any native insects.
Mice will move in and out of our homes and businesses over the next four to six weeks. There is hope, we usually will see at least one 60°F day by the end of March. 2014 does not count. We will try to block out the memories of 2014. Now is a good time to pre book your April spring preventive service. Contact us by end of February and receive a 10% discount. Regular customers will receive last years pricing. Beware of the carpenter ant! Nothing like a small January thaw to wake up a few Lady Beetles. We hit a balmy 35*F here in Kenosha, WI and boom! Lady Beetle calls from clients who have not seen them in years. Clearly not from outside, they have been hiding in the walls since last fall. If bad enough, we can help suppress the problem till spring. Minor issues are easiest to control with a vacuum cleaner.
I know where they hide and in many cases can eliminate most activity right away. I then can set you up with a preventive program that does not require a maintenance contract. So far this year has been a normal winter. almost bitter cold, yet no where near cold enough to kill off our pest populations. we need -25°F or colder. Even bed bugs will not die in the temps we have seen so far.
Mice are still looking for some place warm. Proper pest proofing not only keeps mice and insects out. It will keep the heat in. Bed bug calls are starting to pick up. This is right on schedule. Most calls are from home owners who have tried professional products they purchased on line. It is not only what you use, but also what you know. I inspected and treated over 5800 beds in 2014! We are also booking our April and May spring perimeter protection services. If done early enough, we can avoid pest entering the interior of your home or business. WOW! What a year!
2014 had quite the strange weather. Winter seamed to last forever, spring squeezed out most of summer, fall was rather pleasant and then November! COLD! Mice came indoors in a fury. Was looking like we were going to have a white Thanksgiving and Christmas. Weather moderated in December. Much better than the Farmers Almanac predictions. The Holidays have brought in many bugs and critters. Bed Bugs were very active after Halloween and through November. There has been a slight slowdown in calls during December. You may think, good. Think again. More likely people are holding off treatment so they can afford Christmas gifts. What does this mean for you? Uninvited Guest! No, not the mother in-law you subconsciously forgot to send an invite to. BED BUGS! How so? You know the drill. You have company come over. Way more coats than closet space. On the beds they go! Who knew cousin Joe attending UW Where ever has bed bugs in their dorms. How about uncle Bill who just came back from a ten day tropical cruise. And you thought he forgot you? Not even a cheesy T Shirt. Didn't have guest over this year? Safe? Not so fast. You put your nice warm coat on crazy aunt Hazels bed. Are you sure the carry on bins were free of bed bugs? How about that hotel you stayed in? Did you check the bed? How about behind the head board? Oh Oh! Missed that one. Oh boy! Now What?
